I love sending and receiving postcards around the word. I am into this unique hobby for nearly two years now. I received a lot of beautiful postcards mostly from Finland and other parts of Europe. I received rarely but so unique postcards from other countries like Maldova, Belarus, Iceland, Brazil, Cyprus, Tanzania, Bahamas, India, and a lot to mention. I like the stamps too. I also like the message written on the back of the postcard. Recently, I have my own postal box and even the mail man noticed there are postcards arrive every week. I am enjoying this hobby more.

Aside from that, I am into photography. I like taking photos of nature and the beautiful places in my country. I do travel from time to time. Our place is full of beautiful attractions and history. We have old churches here. We have festivals and native foods. I would love to show it to the whole world through sending personalized mailing post cards. It is because there are limited local postcards of our local city. In fact, I received a couple of personalized postcards and it made me to have that great idea. Here's another unique postcard I received recently. I was so amazed when I handed it from my P.O. Box. Colorful doors indeed! According to the sender, these colorful doors are from the Georgia style buildings built by the English during their occupation of Ireland. What a selection of the famous Doors of Dublin from in and around the Georgian Squares of Dublin City. Thanks so much Andy!

Bully is a commune in the Rhone department in eastern France. It is very close to Sarcey where Fabrice lives with his better half with their cat Paddy.

It's the church on the left and the castle on the right. According to him, the castle is privately owned.

After I have my Postal Office Box, this is the first postcard I had on it. It came from Mia of Finland. According to her, this is a very typical view in her country. But for me it's a very beautiful view since I really like sunset and sunrise. Like Philippines, Finland has thousands of islands too.

Buying this beautiful postcard is accidental. One humid afternoon, we experienced a power interruption. Unlucky, we don't have power generator so I decided to go to the mall. I had only one thousand pesos on my wallet. I was thinking what to buy until the postcards caught my attention. There were new postcards available including this one. I grabbed some for my postcrossing project.

I was having a great vacation in the second largest city in the United States, the largest city in the state of California- Los Angeles. The beautiful landmarks in Los Angeles include China, Koreatown, Little Tokyo, Walt Disney Concert Hall, Kodak Theatre, Getty Center, Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum, Los Angeles County Museum of Art, Hollywood Sign, Hollywood Boulevard, Capitol Record Tower, Hollywood Bowl, La Pacita Olvera/Olvera Street and more. While I was driving a Honda Civic around L.A., all of the sudden there were dinosaurs crossing the highway. They looked hungry! They were so big that they partially damaged the car. I saw a spark ignited then there was explosion that created pressure in the engine. The cylinder head gasket was damaged! I kept driving so fast. I knew I was safe when the freaking hungry dinosaurs disappeared in my sight. I dropped by in Los Angeles auto repair shop to have a car check up. That time, I woke up from a sleep holding a postcard came from California, USA sent by Darrin.

Iceland is a European island country located in the North Atlantic Ocean. It's capital and the largest city is Reykjavik,whose surrounding area is home to some two-thirds of the national population and where Stefan, the sender of this postcard lives.

It's the Halslon Reservoir. It's a storage reservoir in Eastern Iceland on the Jokulsa a Dal River. The reservoir stores water for use in hydroelectricity production with the Karahnjukar Project. The reservoir was formed by three different concrete-face, rock-fill embankment dam dams; Karahnjukastifla Dam, the Desjararstifla Dam and the Sauoardalsstifla Dam.

Another nice postcrosser agreed to exchange postcard with me. Her name is Gina who is living in Bahamas. This is the first postcard I received from the beautiful island of Bahamas. Its capital is Nassau. The Miss Universe pageant was held in the said country last year 2009.

Bahamas is an English-speaking country consisting of 29 islands, 661 cays and 2,387 islets. it's the scenic Bennet's Hill that you can view the whole Bahamas. Another attraction aside from beautiful beaches, are the lighthouses.

THE SYDENY OPERA HOUSE OF AUSTRALIA

I would like to start posting postcards from A to Z. Here's the first postcard from Australia. It's my first postcard from Downunder. And I am so thankful for Emma who agreed to have a private swap with me.

The Opera House is the famous attraction in Sydney, Australia. It was built by Danish architect Jorn Utzon who received the Pritzker prize of architecture's highest honour in 2003. The Opera house was formally opened by Elizabeth II, Queen of Australia on October 20, 1973 with the large crowd in attendance. The opening was televised and included fireworks and a performance of Beethoven's Symphony No. 9.

The Opera House was made a UNESCO World Heritage Site on June 28, 2007. It is the most recently constructed World Heritage Site to be designed as usch, sharing this distinction with such ancient landmarks as Stonehenge and the Giza Necropolis as of 2009. The 2009 Message Sticks Indigenous Film Festival was held at the Sydney Opera House.

Bahay Kubo is the national house of the Philippines. The native house is constructed out of bamboo together, with a thatched roof using nipa or coconut leaves. Nipa huts were the native houses of the indigenous people of the Philippines before the Spaniards arrived.

Minnesota has 90,000 miles of shoreline thats more than california, Florida and Hawaii combined.

MARTINIQUE ISLAND

Another postcard sent by Kateryna and it's another overseas department of France. I am only familiar with the name of the island during Miss Universe pageant. I am interested to know more about the island and I found some informations through Wikipedia.

Martinique is an island in the eastern Caribbean Sea. Aside from the beautiful beaches it offers in the south, the north of the island is mountainous and lushly forested. It features four ensembles of volcanoes and mountains. The Piton Conil on the extreme North, Mount Pelee, an active volcano, the Morne Jacob, and the Pitons du Carbet, an ensemble of five extinct volcanoes covered with rainforest and dominating the Bay of Fort de France.

The highest of the island's many mountains, at 1397 meters, is the famous volcano Mount Pelee. Its volcanic ash has created gray and black sand beaches in the north (in particular between Anse Ceron and Anse des Gallets), contrasting markedly from the white sands of Les Salines in the south.

In popular culture, martinique was the main setting of the 1944 film To Have and Have Not starring Humphrey Bogart and Lauren Bacall. It is the island mentiond in the song "Uffington wassail" by Half Man Half Biscuit. It was also featured in the 1999 remake of The Thomas Crown Affair, and in the movie Sugar Cane Alley.

GUADELOUPE- AN OVERSEAS DEPARTMENT OF FRANCE

Another private exchanged postcard from Kateryna of France. Kateryna bought the postcard in Guadeloupe when she and her husband had a vacation there. The postcard is the view of Guadeloupe. It is an archipelago located in the eastern Caribbean Sea. It is an overseas department of France and an integral part of the republic.

Guadeloupe comprises five islands namely Basse-Terre Island, Grande-Terre with the adjacent islands of La Desirade, Les Saintes and Marie-Galante. The island was devasted by several hurricanes in modern times. The last hit happened on Septmeber 21, 1998. Hurricane Georges pounded the islands causing moderate damages and destroyed 90 percent of the banana crops.

Even though Guadeloupe is part of France, it has its own sports teams. It has its own national football team, the Guadeloupe national football team. Orlando Magic forward Michael Pietrus and Dallas Mavericks guard Rodrigue Beaubois are originally from Guadeloupe.

THE PERFECT CONE MAYON VOLCANO OF THE PHILIPPINES

There are 22 active volcanoes and 355 inactive in the Philippines . One of the active volcanoes is the Mayon volcano or Mount Mayon. It is located in Albay, in the Bicol Region. It is renowned as the "perfect cone" because of it's almost perfect conical shape.

On October 13, 2008, it was included in New 7 Wonders of Nature Top 10 list. This month of December 2009, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Philvolcs) raised Mayon's status level to Alert Level 3 due to increasing lava flow on the southern portion of volcano and an increase in sulphur dioxide emission until this time.

CORAZON AQUINO'S STAMP

On August 1, 2009, after one and a half year battle with colon cancer, the 76 year-old Aquino died at the Makati Medical Center at around 3:18 a.m. due to complications of cardiorespiratory arrest.
Following her death, Filipino Catholics called on the Church to have Aquino canonized and declared as a saint . During her lifetime, Aquino has been known and praised for her strong spirituality and sincere devotion to the Catholic faith.
Days after her funeral, the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) announced that it supported calls to put the former President on the 500-Peso banknote alongside her husband, Ninoy Aquino.

Her stamps already available in Philippine postal office last October of this year.

PHILIPPINES' NATIONAL SPORT- SIPA

The game is both played by two teams, indoors or outdoors, on a court that is about the size of a tennis court. The milkfish or bagus in tagalog is the national fish of the Philippines. It is the sole living species in the family Chanidae. The fry are collected from rivers and raised in ponds where they grow very quickly and are then sold either fresh, frozen, canned, or smoked. Narra is the national tree of the Philippines which can refer to several Pterocarpus. It is a large deciduous tree growing to 30-40 m tall, with a trunk up to 2 m diameter. The leaves are 12-22 cm long. The flowers are produced in panicles 6-13 long containing a few to numerous flowers; flowering is from February to May in the Philippines.

PHILIPPINE NATIONAL ANIMAL- CARABAO

The carabao (Filipino: kalabaw or Bubalus bubalis carabanesis is a domesticated subspecies of the water buffalo (Bubalus bubalis) found in the Philippines, Guam, Indonesia, Malaysia and various parts of Southest Asia. Carabaos are associated with farmers, being the farm animal of choice for pulling the plow and the cart used to haul produce to the market.

Although no law decrees the carabao to be a national symbol in the Philippines, it is generally considered by most Filipinos to be the national animal. Government agencies have come together to improve the marketability of the species.

PHILIPPINE NATIONAL COSTUME- BARONG TAGALOG AT BARON'T SAYA

The barong Tagalog (or simply barong, from the word baro) is an embroidered formal garment of the Philippines. It is very lightweight and worn untucked (similar to a coat/dress shirt), over an undershirt. It is a common wedding and formal attire for Filipino men as well as women. The term "barong Tagalog" literally means "a dress that is Tagalog", or "a Tagalog dress" (i.e., "baro na Tagalog", with "barong" being a contraction of "baro na") in the Filipino language.
The barong was popularised as formal wear byPhilippine President Ramon Magsaysay, who wore it to most official and personal affairs, including his inauguration as president.
Baro't saya is the unofficial national dress the Philippines and is worn by women. The name is a contraction of the Tagalog words baro at saya, meaning "dress (blouse) and skirt".

PHILIPPINE NATIONAL HERO- DR. JOSE P. RIZAL

José Protasio Rizal Mercado y Alonso Realonda-(June 19, 1861 – December 30, 1896, Bagumbayan), was aFilipino polymath, nationalist and the most prominent advocate for reforms in the Philippines during the Spanish colonial era. He is considered the Philippines' national hero and the anniversary of Rizal's death is commemorated as aPhilippine holiday called Rizal Day. Rizal's 1896 military trial and execution made him a martyr of thePhilippine Revolution.

José Rizal's most famous works were his two novels, Noli me Tangere and El Filibusterismo. These writings angered both the Spaniards and the hispanicized Filipinos due to their insulting symbolism.
Moments before his execution by a firing squad of Filipino native infantry of the Spanish Army, backed by an insurance force of Spanish troops, the Spanish surgeon general requested to take his pulse; it was normal. Aware of this, the Spanish sergeant in charge of the backup force hushed his men to silence when they began raising '¡vivas!' with the partisan crowd.
He was secretly buried in Paco Cemetery in Manila with no identification on his grave. His sister Narcisa toured all possible gravesites and found freshly turned earth at the cemetery with civil guards posted at the gate. Assuming this could be the most likely spot, there being ever no ground burials there, she made a gift to the caretaker to mark the site "RPJ", Rizal's initials in reverse.
A monument, with his remains, now stands near the place where he fell, designed by the Swiss Richard Kissling of the famed William Tell sculpture. The statue carries the inscription "I want to show to those who deprive people the right to love of country, that when we know how to sacrifice ourselves for our duties and convictions, death does not matter if one dies for those one loves – for his country and for others dear to him."

PHILIPPINE NATIONAL FLAG STAMP- PAMBANSANG WATAWAT

I collected Philippines stamps too especially the national stamps.

The modern design of the Philippine flag was conceptualized by Emilio Aguinaldo during his exile in Hong Kong in 1897. The first flag was sewn by Marcela Marino de Agoncillo with the help of her daughter Lorenza andDelfina Herbosa de Natividad (a niece of reformist leader Jose Rizal). It was displayed in battle on May 28, 1898.

Official sources state that the white triangle stands for equality and fraternity; the blue field for peace, truth, and justice; and the red field for patriotism and valor. The eight primary rays of the sun represent the eight provinces which declared a state of war as soon as the first revolt was initiated in the 1896 Revolution of independence from Spain, and placed under martial law by the colonial government: Manila, Cavite, Bulacan, Pampanga, Nueva Ecija, Tarlac, Laguna, and Batangas. The three stars represent the three major geographical divisions of the country: Luzon, the Vizayas, and Mindanao.

MY PHOTOCARD COLLECTION BOOK

I just finished posting the postcard I received in 2008. I started October last year and I had received 10 official postcards through postcrossing. Needless to say that I received private postcards too. Some postcards I sent were expired, (just 3 postcards), I don't know what happened. Maybe it did not reached the postcrosser's hand. So before I will post the postcards I received for 2009, let me show you how I keep the postcards I received. It's my collection now and I treasure them so much. It would remind every postcrosser's identity every time I scan them in a cleared postcard book. I appreciate more of the handwritten message plus the stamps at the same time. I had a great idea to expose the backside then. It's back-to-back postcardbooking.

Vira sent these stone lions with golden wings that brings good luck from Russia. I heard more about Saint Petersburg than Moscow. According to someone I met online, it's the city of models. :-) Saint Petersburg is often described as the Western city of Russia. The Historic Centre of Saint Petersburg and Related Groups of Monuments constitute a UNESCO WORLD Heritage Site.

Finally, this supposed to be the lost postcard arrived just last two days ago. Actually, it was sent by my postcrosser-friend Laszlo on February 19, 2009. We wondered what happened and I even thought it was lost somewhere. But here it comes! The same story my online friend told me yesterday. I sent a postcard for him some years ago. And he just received it for two years of waiting. I can't imagine that. Anyways, thanks Laszlo for the first postcard you sent for me from your country Hungry. I received the second and the third postcard and I will send the third postcard soon.

THE GARDEN OF HEIAN-JINGU SHRINE IN KYOTO

This is my first postcard from Japan. It's the Garden of Heian-Jingu Shrine in Kyoto. The Heian Shrine was built in memory of Emperor Kanmu, and the gardens attached to the SHrine are divided into the Western Garden, Central Garden and Eastern Garden. The Eastern Garden is the largest one, and the breath of the 1,000 year history of this ancient capital can be felt when the cherry blossoms are in bloom.

I was surprised to received this two postcards from my blogger-friend Mrs. T. She is my kababayan(Filipino) who is living in New York for good.

Horseshoe Falls @ Niagara Falls is 1,000 feet wide and 162 feet high. Water rushes over the falls at 400,000 tons per minute.

While the American Falls are 167 feet high with a water flow of 4 million gallons a minute. Light up at night, they present a spectacular sight.

This is my first ever private swap card. It came from Didier of France. It's the view of Notre Dame de Paris. It is a Gothic cathedral on the eastern half of the Île de la Cité in Paris, France. It is widely considered one of the finest examples of French Gothic architecture. The name Notre Dame means "Our Lady" in French. Notre Dame de Paris was among the first buildings in the world to use the flying buttress.
